Of course it couldn't be that easy. It had been much easier for her to believe, when her old life had a head on collision with...well, with her really old life. She'd heard the voices for months, had the visions and nightmarish dreams, and seen the faces of the creatures of Hell that came to take her. It makes it a lot easier to believe the impossible when your life has already become insanity. Steve doesn't seem to have had that advantage, if it could be called that, and it's making this so much more difficult than she has time for.
"Coffee can wait," she waves, almost dismissively, but she does take the seat and prop her elbows up on the table, tapping her fingers lightly against her chin as she looks at the man across from her for a moment or two. Finally she sighs, rubs her temples lightly and shakes her head. They just don't have time for any of this, whether he knows it or not. Just being here is dangerous, and if he hadn't been on Heaven's hit list before then he definitely is by now. She had known that coming here would be a risk, for the both of them. After all, they may not have found the body that Steve occupies these days yet. She had to do it though.
"This is going to sound insane, I know." Always a good place to start. "But if you could do me a huge favour and just trust me for...five minutes, less than that, I promise you it will save your life."
He thinks about this for a second, but he decides he wants information first. He can sense the urgency in her voice, and he says: "Why don't we go someplace more secure?" He gets up and offers her a hand. "And then you can tell me about who's coming after me on the way over." This is how he makes a deal. He'll trust her; he'll even believe something wrong is going to happen if she doesn't get to talk to him for five minutes, but this is all a little bit far-fetched and he definitely wants to take this on his terms.
He's sure that if something does come for him, he can handle it. If not, his friends are only a phonecall away. Bucky's probably in Manhattan and Sam is at home this weekend; half of the Avengers are away on leave but the rest of them are in the city. Two of the people he knows he can count on right now to help can fly, and quickly, so no, he's not worried at all. He's not scared, and he doesn't even seem to be confused.
It'll take at least five minutes to walk to the Helicarrier, so that'll at least give them the time to talk for whatever it is she needs to say. Other than that, he doesn't know another place he could go to completely disappear.
